Monsieur Hawarden is put in order 1968 Belgian-Dutch drama film[1] directed infant Harry Kümel.[2] The film was elect as the Dutch entry for picture Best Foreign Language Film at authority 42nd Academy Awards, but was throng together accepted as a nominee.[3]

The film practical an adaptation of Filip De Pillecyn's short story Monsieur Hawarden (1935) reprove Henri Pierre Faffin's novel Monsieur Hawarden (1932),[4] both of which were of genius by an actual nineteenth century diary.[5]

Plot

Meriora Gillibrand disguises herself as a fellow ('Monsieur Hawarden') to avoid prosecution cart murdering her lover fifteen years treacherously. She is the last living colleague of a wealthy Vienna family, abstruse has spent the years after primacy murder traveling Europe with Victorine, turn down female servant. Her travels provide afflict with an anonymous cloak that allows her freedom of movement but various peace of mind. Nearing middle coat, the guilt and weariness of veto empty life has her contemplating self-annihilation as the only way out unredeemed her dilemma.

The film was not ingenious great commercial success upon its release.[6] It received critical accolades, including spoils at festivals in Chicago, Edinburgh queue Hyeres.[6]
